My working experience
Early Career - School Counsellor
After earning my Master’s degree from the University of Bristol, I began my counselling journey in a primary school setting. In this role, I supported students and parents, addressing emotional and developmental challenges. I applied directive play work, using storytelling, board games, and role-play to help children express and process their feelings. I also collaborated with educators, educational psychologists, and speech therapists, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to student wellbeing.
Teaching Fellow - The Education University, Hong Kong
As a Teaching Fellow, I designed and delivered training programs for teachers, social workers, and parents. My work emphasized the practical application of theories through real-life cases, particularly around the support of students with learning difficulties. This enhanced my expertise in adult education, public speaking, and cross-sector collaboration.
Family Counsellor - Family Dynamics Co. Ltd.
Following my Master’s training in Marriage and Family Therapy, I worked with families of children with special educational needs. I supported parents in understanding their children’s needs, improved parenting strategies, and helped couples build stronger relationships. I also offered individualised training to children, addressing conditions like ADHD, learning disabilities, and giftedness.
Community Support Project – Swire Group Charitable Trust
At the Education University of Hong Kong, I contributed to a project supporting under-resourced families. I led Family Life Education programs, including a Parent-Child Relationship Therapy group that equipped parents with tools to strengthen family bonds and promote early emotional wellbeing.
Community work - CIC Colchester
At Life in the UK CIC Colchester, I helped Hong Kong BNO visa holders with career planning through personalised consultations. We also partnered with local charities—such as St Helena Hospice, Community 360, and Essex Integration—to provide volunteering opportunities for the Hong Kong people.
Counselling and Teaching in the UK
Through my role at Shine and Smile Counselling Centre, I support clients from Asian, African and British communities. As an Affiliate Counsellor for Health Assured, I provide Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) counselling to staff from various companies. My teaching role at ACL Essex has helped me better understand the local culture and the mental health needs within the community.
A Holistic Approach
My professional experience spans education, clinical work and community service. I bring a comprehensive, evidence-informed and empathetic approach to counselling-tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals and families navigating emotional and developmental challenges.
